Why Privacy Is So Important

Each time we use a regular search engine to find something, one more data point about us (like gender, age, earning potential and even medical issues) gets revealed.

By itself, each data point is a like a single piece of a jigsaw puzzle. It might not reveal much, but when we put enough of the pieces in place, an astonishingly clear picture of who we are emerges.

Data is now the new gold, and when it's a single entity that has all those pieces it's only natural for us to be concerned.

What’s more, it’s difficult if not impossible to take back all the data points we have given up. Once the cat is out of the bag, it’s out.

All we can do is choose to stop giving up new data points.

New Old Take on Web Search

Back in the mid-90s, web search worked for us. There were no login prompts, no tracking, no AI, and far fewer ads.

Search was as simple as typing in a few basic keywords and getting results.

Sometimes those results were just what we wanted. Other times we got a little more and we had fun going down the rabbit hole.

In addition to taking web search privacy to its utmost, Momiji is designed, with intention, to recreate the mid-90s web search experience.

There are no logins and no user accounts needed for searching, never any ads², and nodoby is tracking us with cookies or any other means.

And make no mistake, Momiji is about the human web. AI summaries hurt the very people striving to keep the web open and sustainable for us all, and Path10 refuses to add to the problem.

There is no opaque algorithm here deciding for you what should appear up top. Just tell Momiji the sorting aspects that matter most to you and it will sort the search results accordingly.

Don't like a particular result? Hide it and it will never show up again.

Find a bunch of results personally objectionable? Just adjust the built-in objectionable content filters.

These are just some of the ways Momiji can be customized to work just the way you want.

And of course, all of this stays only on your device, and Path10 NEVER tracks your preferences.

Bookmark Search

Wish there was a particular result that isn't there? Add it!

This is because Momiji is also a powerful bookmark manager. Bookmarks will show up almost like search results when you search for them.

Momiji can even import all your favorite bookmarks from your browser and you can also share any search result or bookmark with family and friends!

Searching in Momiji

Momiji uses simple keyword searching. One or two words (like: free books) are usually all it takes to get started.

This is to protect your privacy. Remember, Momiji isn't tracking you, and this means it isn't trying to learn who you are or how you think.

Momiji suggests keywords related to displayed results when refining your search, both to save you time and to help you explore more interesting content.

Momiji's tabs also help you jump around without losing your place. Want to search for hotels in one tab and hotels | (tour & resorts) in another? Just duplicate the first tab and get more specific in the second.
